Leading Independent Producer Jeremy Chua to Be Honored at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, According to Global Bulletin

Jeremy Chua, a dynamic Singaporean producer, is set to receive the FIAPF Award for Outstanding Contribution to Asia Pacific Cinema during the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) on November 3, held on Australia’s Gold Coast. Over the nine years since founding his company, Potocol, Chua has dedicated his efforts to international co-productions of Asian films and telling stories from Asia.

Two of his recent films, “Autobiography” by Indonesian director Makbul Mubarak and “Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell” by Vietnamese debutant Thien An Pham, are their respective countries’ entries for the Oscars. In 2021, Chua produced Bangladesh’s first film at Cannes, titled “Rehana.” At the most recent Busan International Film Festival, he premiered the Singapore-Japan co-venture “Last Shadow at First Light” and Thailand’s “Doi Boy.” Additionally, at Busan’s Asian Project Market, his project “Filipinana,” set in the Philippines, received recognition for its outstanding development work, securing three awards.

During APSA, Chua will participate in a producers’ roundtable discussion and mentor Kazakh filmmaker Amir Amenov, supporting the development of his directorial project, “Warm Night, Cold Beer,” as part of the Asia Pacific Screen Lab.

“The Buckingham Murders,” directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Ektaa R Kapoor, with co-production by Indian actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, has been selected as the opening film for the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. Following its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival earlier this month, the film is scheduled to be screened on October 27 at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre.

The story unfolds in the U.K., following cop and single mother Jasmeet Bhamra (Kapoor Khan), who has recently lost her child in a shooting spree. She relocates to a market town north of London, where she is assigned the case of a missing child. International sales for the film will be handled by Madhu Entertainment.

The 2023 edition marks the first in-person edition of the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in three years, running from October 27 to November 5.
