Queluz – Drew Buggs, a standout basketball player hailing from Long Beach Polytechnic High School and the recipient of the Long Beach Gazette’s Iron Man of the Year award, embarked on his basketball journey at the University of Hawaii right after high school. During his time at the University of Hawaii, Buggs achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the all-time assist leader for the university. He also earned the distinction of Big West Conference All-Conference Honorable Mention.

Subsequently, Drew Buggs made the decision to utilize his NCAA-Covid eligibility in the highly competitive Southeastern Conference (SEC), first at the University of Missouri, and later at Winthrop University.

In a significant development, Drew Buggs inked a contract with NB Queluz, a team competing in the Proliga league in Portugal, in late November 2022. In his inaugural professional season overseas, Buggs is currently showcasing his exceptional skills by leading his team in assists. Moreover, he has established himself as the assist leader for the entire league, averaging an impressive 8 assists per game.

One of the standout moments in Drew Buggs’ overseas career occurred on January 14, 2023, when he played a pivotal role in guiding Queluz to a triumphant 87-78 victory over Belenenses. In that game, Buggs delivered a stellar performance with 22 points, 10 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block. This victory underscored his ability to make a significant impact on the court.

Throughout the season, Drew Buggs has consistently demonstrated his prowess as a playmaker. He has notched games with remarkable assist totals, including 10, 11, and 13 assists in just 8 games played. However, one of the standout moments of his professional career occurred on February 5th, when he put up an impressive display, leading Queluz to a thrilling 95-93 victory. During this game, Buggs recorded a career-high 33 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds, and displayed his prowess from beyond the arc by going 5 for 8 from the 3-point line.

In addition to his exceptional playmaking abilities, Drew Buggs is also contributing significantly on the scoring front, averaging 15 points per game. He has maintained an impressive field goal percentage, shooting over 50%. His all-around contributions are evident as he also secures an average of 5 rebounds and 2 steals per game.
