Will Smith has issued a response to his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s, revelations regarding their tumultuous relationship in her upcoming memoir, “Worthy,” set to be released on October 17.

In an email sent to The New York Times, Smith expressed that Pinkett Smith’s candid reflections on their marriage in her memoir served as a wake-up call for him. He came to the realization that she had led a more daring life and possessed greater resilience, intelligence, and compassion than he had previously understood.

Smith wrote, “When you’ve spent more than half of your life with someone, a certain emotional blindness can set in, and you can easily overlook their hidden nuances and subtle beauties.”

Currently, Pinkett Smith is on a promotional tour for “Worthy,” during which she has already unveiled significant aspects of her memoir. Notably, she disclosed to People magazine that she and her husband had been living separately for six years prior to the infamous “Oscars slap” incident. This incident occurred when Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards after Rock made a joke about Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, a result of her battle with alopecia.

During the ceremony, Rock quipped, “Jada, I love you. ‘G. I. Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it,” in reference to the 1997 movie “G. I. Jane,” in which Demi Moore sported a shaved head.

Smith stormed the stage, slapped Rock, and exclaimed, “Keep my wife’s name out of your remarks.” Consequently, Smith was compelled to resign from the Academy and was barred from attending Academy events for the next decade.

In an NBC News primetime special, Pinkett Smith expressed her astonishment that Smith referred to her as his “wife” during that incident, considering their lengthy separation.

“I believe that by the time we reached 2016, we were worn out from trying,” Pinkett Smith told People. “I think we were both still trapped in our fantasies of what we thought the other person should be.”
